WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk pledged Thursday to push forward with a “nice modernization program” for his nation’s navy, a day after Russian drones crossed into Poland and amplified worldwide tensions round Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, together with what the Kremlin’s future territorial ambitions could be.

European officers described Wednesday’s incursion, which occurred throughout a wave of latest unrelenting Russian strikes on Ukraine, as a deliberate provocation, forcing the NATO alliance to confront a possible menace in its airspace for the primary time.

It deepened longstanding fears that the three-year conflict between Poland’s neighbors may precipitate a wider battle. U.S.-led efforts to steer Moscow and Kyiv towards a peace settlement have to date did not get traction.
