Peter Aldington might have designed only a dozen homes over the course of his profession, however he has an outsized affect over generations of architects—and specifically, over British architect Gary Collins.
After seeing simply two slides of Aldington’s work in a university structure class, Collins, impressed, took the prepare to Haddenham village in Buckinghamshire, England, to hunt an internship at his agency, Aldington, Craig and Collinge. Collins and his spouse, Sally, have lived in Center Flip since 2018 (the opposite two properties on the property are named The Flip and Flip Finish). Their neighbors? None apart from Aldington and his spouse, Margaret, who occupy Flip Finish, the most important of the three. (The third constructing is rented out.) “The homes share an entrance courtyard with lined automobile port. Peter and Margaret each nonetheless stay there and are into their 90s now,” says Collins.
Aldington had designed the compound to be an ideal marriage between structure and panorama design, so though the comparatively small lot would maintain three properties, the out of doors areas could be equal in significance. Well-known for his uncompromising requirements, Aldington, with the assistance of Margaret and a group of native craftspeople, constructed the home himself. The Flip Finish Belief was established in 1998 to advertise the merging of constructing and backyard design and, after bequest by the Aldingtons, to preserve and keep the historic property.
